i saw someone debating Earthling Ed and he made the argument that people have a moral duty to end their own lives
and i know it sounds bad, but i do often think - wouldn’t it just be better if the planet just exploded and ended all life on it?
i know there would be no more joy, but joy often seems to come at the expense of others.
and there would be no more suffering, for anyone. no more animals having to hunt and injure and kill to survive.
no more war, famine, struggles for shelter, painful diseases, loneliness, anxiety, depression, embarrassment, shame, jealousy…
i personally feel the suffering in the world outweighs the joy in the world - so ethically, wouldn’t it make sense for all living beings to end their lives (a painless way could be provided)?
i mean this question seriously. if no one was here, we wouldn’t need to worry about those we left behind. everyone would be free of pain. it seems as long as there is life, there is suffering.
(and it seems selfish for the small amount of people who are happy, to expect everyone else to live unfulfilling lives for their sakes)
Better for who, exactly? There would be nobody around for anything to be 'better' for. Better and worse only exist if there are creatures there to perceive it. Nobody existing cannot be ethically better, because ethics would cease to exist if there are no moral agents left in the world. Nobody existing 'solves' the problem of suffering in the same way that dropping a nuclear bomb on the USA would solve the problems with the electoral system.
More to the point, you'd be forcing this on everyone who very much does not want sentient existence to end. People deciding what is best for the whole world, regardless of how everyone else feels about it, has literally never resulted in anything good. You’d essentially be punishing the entire world because of your own (probably quite limited) experience of it. Does everyone deserve the same fate, no matter how they have lived?
Nobody is expecting you to live unhappy lives for our sakes - our happiness doesn't require your misery. I hear this one constantly and I really don't know where it comes from. Optimistic people aren't forcing cynical people to be cynical. Your life is your own, you are free to do what you want with it, including ending it, if that is your genuine wish. I hope it isn’t, but I don’t get to determine the course (or the end) of anyone else's life, and neither do you.
You feel that the suffering in the world outweighs the joy, but many of us wouldn't agree with you. No more war, no more famine, but also no more love, no more excitement, adventures, art, creativity, discoveries, friendship, no more music, no more deer walking in the woods, no more cubs playing in the sunshine, no more children running down the stairs on Christmas morning... No more anything. Some of us actually love living in this world, despite all of its flaws.
The only reason this sounds appealing to you is because you are probably very sad, and have ended up in a state of tunnel vision because of that. I don't mean that in any sort of dismissive or insulting way, that is just the only way you arrive at a position like this. It sounds like you have become very centered on your own pain and can’t see much past that.
I feel for you, I really do. Feel what you're feeling and work through it. Just don't let your emotional state when you're in a bad place determine your entire worldview, or you end up ruminating on some pretty toxic ideas, which, I have to be honest, is exactly what this is.

Does anyone get the feeling that the writers of Ahsoka think what us rebels fans love about the ghost crew is just that they are rebels?
These scenes are presented as significant, fun moments where the characters embrace their distinctive personalities.
It's so weird, like yes being rebels are a part of their character, but it's not the main thing we love about them.
I love hera for her competence and compassion. Her character is well made because sometimes in her drive to do good, she gets tunnel vision on her goals and misses what's important for her and her family
Not because she's a hotshot rebel who defies orders without properly explaining herself
I love ezra cause he is a loveable goof who always has dumbass but heartfelt reaction to situations. There"s depth in his character, with him having trouble opening up and trusting people or trusting the wrong people.
Not because he was just a guy who dissapeared with Thrawn.
I love Sabine because of her spunk, attitude and loud personality; a girl who grew up with incredible pressure to do what her family and the empire wanted, who is emotionally closed off but still shows her love through her actions and art.
Not because she needs to be some kinda jedi, or because she acts like a dumb teenager in her thirties.
Most importantly, I love these characters because of their deep relationships with each other, their dysfunctional yet loving family dynamic.
But it feels like this show misses the mark with the Ghost Crew. Where's the playful banter between Sabine and Ezra? Where are the tears of joy after a DECADE apart, not knowing if the other is alive?.
Where's Hera worry and distraught at ANOTHER one of her kids disappearing into hyperspace?
Why isn't Zeb here to help find his little brother?!
Why does sabine not think the living ghost crew aren't part of her living family??
Ugh!
#this show is what most people are going to think of the ghost crew of from now on#like with the mandalorian making everyone think all mandalorians have to wear helmets#Ahsoka should have had a seperate show on her own#rebels should have gotten an animated sequel#rant post#star wars rebels#ahsoka show#star wars#ezra bridger#hera syndulla#sabine wren#swr#sw rebels#sad post

hey.
people are dying, but you're giving your cause everything you can. i've seen you work hard to try to help people. you're donating. you're spreading the word. keep going.
keep questioning how you interact with the world and you'll keep gaining richer experiences for it. this is a turning point for many artists, writers, crafters, etc. wherein they realize that fan culture is not giving them what they could be getting by engaging directly with themes and topics and a medium that they personally care about most.
you have to engage with art to get better at art, and fan work can be a great vessel for your thoughts on art. fan work can be fulfilling, but it is also ultimately a sort of self-imposed constraint.
now. you clearly have stories you want to tell about trans men and war and pointless enterprise and they're outgrowing the tf2 framework. they have been for a while. i don't really like tf2, but i *do* like your art and think of you first as an artist who engages with the trans body before someone who partakes in fandom of any kind.
if you decide to take those stories in your own direction, i want to read them and watch them grow. take care.
I have mixed feelings because it's not that I see fan work vs. original work as the dichotomy here, but rather like. A lot of the stuff I do outside of it isn't particularly deep in and of itself but it's still meaningful.
It's funny cuz like, I started getting back into traditional art because I've been painting picket signs. You're not doing that because it's narratively engaging or even to make them beautiful, but to be eye-catching and make a point.
I guess that's mostly what I think about, it's more laterally like, something that can exist without needing to be to that ends.
I don't really think it's a matter of taking the stories I have and restructuring them to add "originality" because that wasn't the point of writing them in the first place, and I'm not going to forcibly take my experiences and try to twist them into a compelling story if they won't fit or shouldn't center me - rather, the work I do doesn't need to be that deep if the context I'm using it for is meaningful already, I don't need to cut myself up for parts.
I want to engage art and culture more in that sense, you know? I think that was part of the joy of making pottery to me when I used to do it, there was always this kind of practicality and physicality that makes it feel significant in ways that aren't simply expressed, regardless of "depth" or branding or anything else.
There is just a kind of funneling that inevitably happens with engagement and social media. I think acting like I'm totally above it isn't honest, it's now 2 AM as I'm writing this response. I don't think of myself as profoundly removed, more the opposite. I think even if you're aware, you sometimes don't realise how bad it is for you until you start peeling away.
There's a kind of sterile singularity to it, every aspect of how art and identity are engaged here. There tends to be a kind of singular authority people take to each other that shapes the landscape here. And there's very much an "I'm not like that" kind of dogma.
Paradoxically it is like, the thing where the more you argue the point, the more it seems like you're trying to establish yourself as the authority of it, and again it's not like none of these things can be meaningful at all, but there's a kind of undeniable tunnel vision you get sucked into.
I don't think anything I've done for the causes I'm interested in are praise worthy, I try to do what I can. But it's still the most valuable thing I could be doing.

No-Face
Spirited Away
Arguably one of the most iconic characters from the movie Spirited Away is the monstrous spirit, No Face, who enters the bathhouse one night after Chihiro opens the door for him. That very night he is seen slinking around the bathhouse where he learns how coveted money is among the workers. He lures a spirit using some illusory gold and devours him, gaining his voice! Come the next day, he astounds the bathhouse workers with his gold aplenty, taking expeditious control over the entire establishment. The frenzy that the workers devolve into encapsulates the tunnel vision of capitalist greed that can corrupt the workplace. The workers very literally bow down to “the rich man,” and serve him whatever it might take to earn more of his seemingly ceaseless mounds of riches.
Notably, the gold itself is all but an illusion, turning to dirt before Yubaba’s eyes. This scene fortifies that things only have value when society endows them with it—even in the spirit world, money is only a construct of society.
I have always loved this movie and will continue to do so. Ghibli films never fail to bring me to a state of awe—the music, the animation, the colors, and the story—all of it just brings me this beautiful joy. I always wonder where the ideas for these films sprout from. Spirited Away is such a unique piece of art with such whimsical imagery that it’s hard to imagine how anyone could have brought it to life—but it is so very alive and breathing. Oh goodness, what would I give to see that bathhouse in real life!
I also wanted to mention a little rabbit hole that I went down from this particular rewatch... Apparently, in Japan, there is a common Mandela effect of a ‘phantom ending’ that occurs after Chihiro and her parents leave in their car. Most people who claim to remember this ending seem to recall Chihiro arriving at her new house and exploring for a while. She wanders to her backyard and sees a river with a bridge that extends across it. When she crosses the bridge to view the river she sees an image of Haku across the way looking at her from within the trees. The movie turns to black after that.
It’s absurd to me how many people swear this ending to be real! I certainly don’t remember anything like that, but some claim it to be a deleted scene. Upon searching the internet, I was unable to find anything that proved this to be true. Just some interesting fandom material for you then! Hahah.
I adore this movie—it gets a 9/10.

The Road to Giving Ardwynn [a] Head (Pt 1)
So I've been learning Blender, and while the Donut Tutorial was a nice introduction, I learn better with something to hyperfixate on, and I do love my dumb boy, Ardwynn.
Which led to me to make the decision to jump into the deep end and model his head/bust, and learning how to do it all along the way. And not just in a stylized style, but aiming more for realism. My guiding star is the level we see in the Destiny 2 cutscenes. In fact, Forsaken Uldren is my reference for how to approach a lot of Ardwynn's Awoken features, since they (by accident) have similar features.
I figured I'd share this with you guys in segments. (The Discord I'm in gets the annoyance joy of realtime complaining.) A Tumblr Exclusive, if you will.
For the record, I have almost no idea what the fuck I'm doing. I know what UV Maps and Texture Maps are, and what Alpha Maps are, and that's.... about it.
I'm sure it'll be fine. This can't be too complicated, right? Right?
Narrator voice: It's extremely complicated. I highly recommend working your way up to this, not jumping to it like I have.
For the record, this is a lot of cobbling information from Youtube tutorials together. These ones are the ones I can remember that I've had some success with so far. I'll probably mention more as I go/as I remember.
"Sculpt a Realistic Head in Blender" "Ultimate Guide to Realistic Eyes in Blender" "Handpainting Stylized Textures in Blender" "Using a Cage for Perfect Baking" "Face Retopology" (This is in Maya, not Blender, but the concept still applies)
Anyway, long post is long.
Thank goodness Blender lets you make new little windows inside the application, and open up images and stuff. I made a new boring reference sketch of Ardwynn's head just for this. Working from big shapes to fine details is... tough, because I have a tendency to go ZOOM into fine details. I tunnel vision real bad, so this is at least a good practice into NOT doing that.
Progress, but something feels off. Giving more Patrick Stewart, less Ardwynn. The sculpting tools are surprisingly easy to use, by the way. The real trick is knowing when to hit "Remesh".
Spoiler Alert: I don't. This is a problem that bites me in the ass later....
Mmmm, yes, it's all coming together. That looks more like my boy. The scar was easier to do than I expected, though I'm not sure how to approach his split lips, as the way his scar is, it stretches his mouth up, leaving a bit of it perpetually open. I'll just treat it like the eyes and just model a tiny cavity. It's not like anyone's going to see that. I can fix it later if it's an issue. A future me problem, if you will.
Are you seeing a trend here? Because if you're thinking "oh, they've already said they had problems down the line, and now this is another bit of foreshadowing", you're correct. Again, another spoiler alert: it was a future me problem.
I've learned from doing art for forever that focusing too long on one thing gives my brain some sort of creative fatigue. "When you start to hate or feel bored with something, work on something else in the picture" is probably the best advice I've ever gotten, and I'm applying it here, too. I decided to tackle how to model glowing eyes. At this point, I've grabbed Uldren/Crow's low-poly in-game mesh and picked it apart specifically to look at his eyes. I'd kill to get the high-poly cinematic one, but that's not available to the general public, so it'll have to do. I apply a little of what I learned and tada! Budget glowing eyes. They work for the purpose of learning Emission nodes and all that shit in the Shaders section of Blender. They're placeholders for now. I'll make better eyes later. And look! They fit! Mostly.
Do you smell that? More foreshadowing.
I mess around with more than basic flat color shaders for skin, and turn on Subsurface Scattering (SSS). Mm, yes, nice. I also made some teeth for the moment to see if the scar needs tweaking. It did, but overall things are shaping up nicely!
But Blender is starting to crash and run real slow. Weird.
I try out Texture Painting and it just isn't working, so as I start to get really frustrated, I decide to bounce back to the Compositing tab, remembering what I learned about it when doing The Donut Tutorial. Ah, yes, this will make his eyes glow very nicely. Though I'm not super satisfied with it. I move on to seeing if I can't start to decipher the mystery that is hair.
Blender still isn't doing too hot, and though the hair is a fun side-tangent, I'd like to have the skin done and dusted before I move on. With some googling, I find the most common suggestion is make a UV map. Okay. I try that and it's a mess. More googling and I find the common suggestion if you're using a high-poly sculpt is to "retopologize" it. Okay, so I look that up. Fun fact, the first video I follow along with is not what's linked. It's super basic and I found didn't really explain much when I had to redo the mesh.
Redo the mesh you say? Well, you see, I spent 8-9 hours building a low poly version of this bastard's head (with the Mirror modifier, don't worry), and I had an addon suggested to me: RetopoFlow. Curious, I got it, and tried to use it to speed up finishing the mesh up, because I was beyond over it. It was, by far, the most boring fucking process of this whole journey so far.
I, in my infinite lack of wisdom, did not, in fact, make a copy of my work. I somehow end up fucking up the mesh and trying to push too far ahead with it, meaning fixing the fuck-up is too far back to undo to. I also hit save, because I chronically save every five seconds due to paranoia of the program crashing. I lament, delete the mesh, start from scratch, but this time inside of RetopoFlow from the start, and with a new video to guide me. However, I notice a warning pop up from RF that the "mesh was too large (> 1m)". Confused, I check it. I also notice in the video the guy mentions needing a "lower poly version" of the sculpt to work with. "Let's go with 75K."
My sculpt can't be that big right?
Aha. Ha ha. Hm. Ahem.
So I might've hit "Remesh" too many times. I learned why Blender was crashing and having issues, needless to say. I learned how to use the Decimate modifier to... not be at 5M faces/vertices. I have to literally just walk away for it to work, because it took Blender 30 minutes to do, but it did work. Eventually I get to retopo'ing it, this time with a much more organized and nice looking topology. Huzzah! But I lose out on details this way. Oh? I need something called a "normals" map? I learn what that is, but again so many of these videos seem to neglect to mention important information, like how it works and why you're not supposed to have the high-poly mesh showing through the low-poly. I... spent a while working on an issue thanks to lack of information. I eventually make a cage and try baking a new Normals map this time, with much better results exceeeeeeept.
The split in the lip is the new problem to bite Future Me. No pictures for this portion, because I didn't take any screenshots for this. I eventually had to go in and carefully redo the topography of the low-poly mesh around the lip scar area and make it open. I also had to cut it open on the high-poly sculpt. After that, the Normals FINALLY baked right and stopped giving me some very weirdly textured lips.
Finally, I was able to move on. I made a UV map, made a shiny new texture for Ardwynn's skin and face... It was going good.
But that wasn't the end of my problems. When I finally made new eyes, which looked very cool...
Something about the properly sized eyeball no longer worked in the eye sockets I made, and not in a little way, as little fixes never looked quite right. I did manage to fix it, but that meant I had to retopo the eye area, and update the UV and the Normals, and fix the texture because it no longer really looked good. (On the plus side, I painted more details into it, so that worked out.)
I'm really happy with the eyes, though. Bless whoever put close-ups of Uldren's eyes in Forsaken cutscenes. They helped immensely.
The skin wasn't fully sorted out, as I needed to do a few more detail items, but I decided to bounce to something else for a bit after fixing all of that. I needed a break. I took my knowledge from mucking around with hair earlier to start working on eyelashes and eyebrows, to make Ardwynn look a little less odd. I had some success, but hm, they still seemed way too thick. Time to consult Youtube.
(I stumbled upon a video on eye tracking and went ahead and set that up, just to make eye positioning easier later. It's not perfect, but it is easier than trying to position the eyes manually.)
Found a tutorial, by the same guy I went to for figuring out the proper shape of the eyes. Buuuut I also took the time to deal with the weird light leak and SSS issue I was having around the eyes. The pitfalls of glowing eyes on a model, I guess. And now I'm at the "fighting with the eyebrow" stage. I'll probably have to hit up a tutorial for that, too, since it looks less like an eyebrow and more like someone glued a piece of a shag rug to his face.
Also I see more issues that need fixing. This time with the ears. Ugh, this feels like it's neverending... 😩
I'll come back later with more progress in a separate post. Fall classes have started, so my free time to fight work with this is about to diminish considerably.
#haldie rambles#haldie blends#OC: Ardwynn#I don't know what to tag this#other than#long post#I am happy with how this is coming out#and it is looking really good#but holy fuck if it isn't death by a thousand cuts

Qamar Kent 🎻
Character collage #4, the resident pretty boy, every group needs one (not really but it can't hurt). Qamar, like Fitz, has been a long-recurring character in my stories and has such gone through many iterations, though his roles have stayed pretty consistent in each setting. Charismatic, amicable (if a little taunting... or a lot), the well-to-do socialite in a group of otherwise awkward, introverted, or tunnel-visioned specialists. I love love LOVE writing characters whose upbringing have made them both 'useless' and essential; Qamar may not be a genius like Valerie or... well, employed like the other four, but he's the only one with the grace, guile, and exploitably good looks to get them into the metaphorical VIP lounges of the narrative. And for that, I adore him. (I also just love characters whose philosophy is "If I can't be useful, I'll be entertaining.")
Like many writers and gay people and gay writers, I have an obsession with Greek mythology (all mythology, but I was a victim of the shiny Greek Myths book first and foremost). I hope for Wayfarers to be a love letter to the Odyssey, my favorite epic, and that's resulted in some general musings and comparisons of each character to gods, mostly for my own enjoyment. For Qamar, this has been particularly interesting, especially as far as he impacts the Wayfarers plot. While I would consider many of my past versions of him to be Aphroditic (is that a word? It is now) - charming, affectionate, a heavy emphasis on knowing how to use his looks - his character as it exists now is much more Dionysian, and I find that SO intriguing. If you're not a Greek myth fan, Dionysus is a fabulously interesting god in that he bridges the gap between mortal and divine, a full god born to a mortal mother. While I must acknowledge my personal favorite god, Janus (beginnings and ends, past and future, the doorways between, etc), Dionysus is another prime god of duality - ecstasy and madness, joy and rage, poetry and philosophy and blind, drunk ramblings (and later as a patron of the arts, especially theatre, so add tragedy and comedy to that list if you'd like).
Something I've struggled with when writing Qamar in the past is that he was simply too soft. I love soft characters! Especially male characters - men who feel, express, care openly, and Qamar still does those things! He is deeply and irrevocably a hopeless romantic! But with this in mind - the Dionysian aspect - I am easily more compelled as to why Lolha would ever allow him to come with on the hunt. I mean, why go through the trouble of hiring a bodyguard, allocating the resources, and adding another liability to keep track of on such a high-risk journey if all you really need is the journal he's got? Why not keep him home, safe, to keep funding your travels from his cushy family manor?
Because he's convincing. Because he comes to you and despite the stifled, painted grief in his request, you see resolve. A ritzy, charming rich kid who barely tolerates dirt from his garden has decided that this - the journal, the hunt, his sister - is important enough to pursue, and you know his word is good. His word is useful.
I love Qamar. Big fan of him. And Dionysus. Some songs for resident pretty boy partier:
Each Time - Tamino (this one gets number one because I have spent YEARS trying to find a voice/style that fit the one for Qamar that's in my head and Tamino is perfectttt)
Why Must We Tell Them Why - 35mm: A Musical Exhibition
Love Me More - Mitski
Theatre - Etta Marcus
Pink Pony Club - Chappell Roan

"Wait, you two know each other..?" Chow's words fall on two sets of deaf ears as they look at each other. Vision tunneled to only the person in front of them. Finn's throat felt tight.... Sure, her body had more curves, cheeks were rounder, but.... he could never forget that face. Meanwhile, Aishwarya's heart pounded in her ears. It had been almost 20 years but, seeing those bright green eyes, brought back memories. Of longing, joy, heartache and.... "Finn...." "Ash-Aishwarya.." You know, the more drawings I do, the more I want to write a story to go with them.... I was also very nervous about posting this. First time I have really shown OCxCanon art somewhere public. Be gentle.

deep dive character sheet
stolen from: ree and everyone else tagging: you there, all the way in the back!!
NAME: LARCEI ISAACH-LOWELL (not yet)
BODY
height: 160cm / 5′ 3
strength ★★★☆☆ (while not physically built, larcei has strength in her ability to generate momentum. acrobatics and evasiveness are her strong suits, with a body type built on lean muscle rather than overwhelming bulk)
dexterity ★★★★★ (goes hand-in-hand with her streamlined physique. her swordplay is also a honed art, learned by countless failures. she'd be caught dead (quite literally) if her stroke missed an enemy's vital)
health ★★☆☆☆ (in addition to being reckless, larcei pushes herself. her pursuit for power often leaves her lacking in personal care, but at the very least she understands the importance of eating and sleeping)
energy ★★★★★ (high-energy, though quick to burn out. larcei has low stamina and fatigues easily, but when she gets fired up there is little she lets stand in her way. also just generally an active/energetic person)
beauty ★★★★☆ (she does little to maintain it, but according to a handful of others, she is very beautiful. also reminiscent of ayra, who is similarly seen as beautiful by other characters. tell her she looks hot and she'll pull you into a stump but say she looks like her mother? and now you've got her listening)
style ★★★★☆ (laugh at the no pants thing but i think her default outfit and casual fits in some of the manga are quite stylish. the boots and gloves are eye-catching while her outfits as a whole enable her high mobility)
hygiene ★★★☆☆ (perhaps a little stinky. definitely waits a day or two more than she should to wash off the bloodstains after a big battle. she grew up in hiding so this was never exactly a priority for larcei)
SKILLS
perception ★★★☆☆ (in battle, being aware of an enemy's strengths and weaknesses is what allows her razor-edge style to succeed. she does get tunnel-visioned rather easily though, and loses points for being perceptive of little else)
communication ★★☆☆☆ (anger she communicates easily, as well as joy. but feelings of affection or things that otherwise make her feel like a burden fall victim to near-tsundere levels of denial)
persuasion ★★☆☆☆ (the only example of persuasion we find with larcei is her recruitment of the dozel brothers and this poses a few issues. firstly, she only really persuades iucharba to change his mind, as the mere sight of her is enough to convince iuchar. secondly, she cannot convince both to set aside their differences and join together, displaying a lack of this trait. and thirdly, she doesn't even try with any other enemy characters, meaning it's just not in her. she can kick and scream and threaten though )
mediation ★☆☆☆☆ (while threatening to whack both parties across the head could work in some scenarios, the vast majority where they don't and also her failure to resolve the dozel conflict earns larcei another low score)
literacy ★★☆☆☆ (a skill taught to her in group sessions in tirnanog but never anything she received formal lessons in, until coming to the officers academy. even then, she's more of a tactile learner)
creativity ★★★☆☆ (her one art is the art of the sword but she's decently creative with it. scion larcei kind of opened my eyes to her using astra for more than just swordplay so i think that is also kind of like a creative outlet for her)
cooking ★★☆☆☆ (it is edible and it gets the job done. definitely better at doing hard farm labor than cooking what she harvests)
tech savvy ★☆☆☆☆ (honor is big for her and she refuses to touch weaponry that is nontraditional (magic, ballistae, siege weapons) lest she let down the pride of her people)
combat ★★★★★ (it is literally in her blood and not only something she does for its own sake, but for the pursuit of her mother)
survival ★★★★★ (under imperial rule this was number one. calling larcei a survivor is a perfect summation of her character)
stealth ☆☆☆☆☆ (it goes against her personal creed to sneak up on people. combat must be announced and challenges shouted so that victory can be achieved against an opponent at full strength)
street smarts ★★★★☆ (see survival. she's watched one too many girl get snatched up to become, to quote her directly, "dead, or wishing i was..." loses one star for the time shannan had to save her but she has not forgotten that day)
seduction ★★☆☆☆ (is found attractive by some people (including her current partner) but doesn't actually know how to leverage that)
luck ★★☆☆☆ (this one is hard to pin down statistically since her lck base and growth are slightly parent-dependent, but given that she's got the lower stat between her and scathach i'd say she's on the unluckier side of things)
handling animals ★☆☆☆☆ (has yet to obtain a mount and things will stay this way for quite some time)
pacifying children ★☆☆☆☆ (definitely more of a hard-discipline kind of parent. she's the one who gets fed up of kids yelling for mcdonalds and pulls in to order a single black coffee)
MIND
intelligence ★☆☆☆☆ (choosing to interpet this as book-smarts, which are an obvious 'no'. she fits the jock archetype fairly well)
happiness ★★★☆☆ (this is a score that's gotten better the more she bonds with people in the group but the tragedy of her family still hangs over her head)
spirituality ★★★★☆ (sort of a big deal for anyone in jugdral, and with multiple quotes revering the sword saint it can be safe to assume she uses him as a measure of strength. definitely more focused on the human-side of the crusaders though)
confidence ★★★★★ (she risks her neck every time she rushes into the fray. to not do so with confidence would spell a quick death)
humor ★☆☆☆☆ (sometimes she does things that can be laughed at but humor isn't really a focus of larcei's character)
anxiety ★★★☆☆(with regards to ayra's whereabouts, specifically. and whether she's been living her life all wrong. the realization that she's been chasing a shadow for nearly 20 years is going to hit her hard)
patience ☆☆☆☆☆ (nope. none. gotta do it now and do it loud!)
passion ★★★★☆ (yes but only in the things she particularly cares for. if it's not a contest or chance for her to grow she will not bother)
nice ☆☆☆★☆ mean (snippy and rude with her nice moments)
brave ☆★☆☆☆ cowardly (cowardly only in the sense that she cannot accept the truth that is right in front of her)
pacifist ☆☆☆☆★ violent (incredibly so)
thoughtful ☆☆☆☆★ impulsive (incredibly so)
agreeable ☆☆☆★☆ contrary (constantly ready for fights, conflict, and competition--though she is rather pleasant with similarly-minded folk and those who earn her respect)
idealistic ☆★☆☆☆ pragmatic (the hope that ayra is alive is the only thing sliding that star to the left. otherwise she is a very realistic person)
frugal ☆★☆☆☆ big spender (grew up without a lot of money since isaach was not ruled by her family during her childhood. she knows its value well)
extrovert ★☆☆☆☆ introvert (to no one's surprise)
collected ☆☆☆☆★ wild (her penchant for violence is only matched by the quickness of her accusations. truly a loose cannon )
ambitious / possessive / stubborn / jealous / decisive / perfectionist
SOCIAL
charisma ★★★☆☆ (she has a kind of plucky charm but is otherwise not remarkable in social settings)
empathy ★★★★★ (an important part of her character, having watched her people suffer at the hands of the empire. she will never forget their pain. never)
generosity ★★★☆☆ (there is a kindled yearning for her to give back to the world and ensure nobody has to grow up parentless but we have yet to see any examples of charitability from her so this one is hard to pin down)
wealth ★★★★☆ (i headcanon that she has a huge lump sum leftover from her participation in genealogy's many arenas that she uses to buy birthday gifts and stuff. she also has a tie back to isaach's throne and can sort of ask for money whenever she wants, though she never does)
honest ☆☆★☆☆ deceptive (wants to be honest but will be meaner than she wants to if it means not exposing a vulnerability. also can get up to mischief)
leader ☆☆☆★☆ follower (imagine being told, at like age five, that you have to protect some kid with your life. still dedicated to seliph in a retainer sort of way but also strikes out and does her own thing)
polite ☆☆☆☆★ rude (most people reading this do not know she is a princess)
political ☆☆☆★☆ indifferent (leaving jugdral has separated her from its politics but if she were in a paired ending or the ending in which both scathach and shannan die and she ascends the throne, this would lean left)
BELIEFS
higher power ★★★★★ (the proof of their existence is within her)
fate/destiny ★☆☆☆☆ (more of a believer in everyone making their own fate)
magic ★★★★★ (it is very real to her and she loathes it)
soulmates ☆☆☆☆☆ (she has been called that one too many times by a man she watched die so. nope)
good and evil ★★★★★ (i don't think she got the same spiel about the loptyr cult that lewyn gave seliph so to her, the conflict is very black-and-white)
luck ☆☆☆☆☆ (skill is far more reliable)
PRIORITIES
family ★★★★★ (ayra quest aside, she cares deeply for her isaachian relatives and the rest of the tirnanog group. her caretakers are loved just as much as real fathers and mothers)
friends ★★★★★ (this was a big moment for her in toa, actually. fighting for those who care about her by choice is equally as important as those who care by birthright)
love ★★★☆☆ (she is taken from a iucharba-recruit timeline but lucina exists so she is questioning this one)
home ★★★★★ (repaying debts to the land, its people, and those who would lend it their assistance, is a cornerstone of isaachian culture)
health ★★★☆☆ (neglects it if she's mad but otherwise tries to be healthy)
praise ★★★☆☆ (kind of. "an admittance that she's better than you" is more apt)
justice ★★★★★ (see repaying debts. extends also to ensuring punishment goes to those who wrong the innocent )
truth ★★★★☆ (she's a little hypocritical in this regard whenever she gets emotional but this is important to her nonetheless)
power ★★★★★ (her pursuit for power is, at times, shonen-esque)
fame ☆☆☆☆☆ (not one bit. if she did care for this, she'd introduce herself with the royal title she technically has)
wealth ★★★☆☆ (enough to survive and enough to make a difference. if she ever does take an interest in raising money, it'd be for the sake of ensuring a better future for someone else)
others' opinions ★★☆☆☆ (of those close to her only. being seen as a child or otherwise helpless blows a quick fuse on her)

I will do it, too. But I will not do it the way he did.
Docult's creation of the Jumbor following Dunstan's betrayal and disappearance is very clearly derivative. But he doesn't ask his creations to fight one another. He doesn't carve their souls into little pieces. He gives them the joys of humanity. He doesn't fucking mess with the fabric of reality.
At least, he doesn't do so intentionally. He's so deep in his idea that he is inherently better than Dunstan, his spite hides the imperfections in the reality he lives in. The fabric of his realities is intact, sure... but it's so, so fragile. So thin. While Dunstan's creations must be terribly strong to claw their way through the little holes Dunstan left behind, it's like wet paper for Something Else to slip, unnoticed, into the world of the Jumbor.
By tearing away so much of humanity, not just allowing, but enabling Genber to smash the ideas of spirituality and myth and art, he's affected the entire world. He's given space to the things that slowly scrape away at the fabric, that make it thinner and thinner and thinner until it can be seen through.
But Docult doesn't see it. He is tunnel-visioned to his creation. To improving, to expanding. It isn't until he becomes Drill that he starts to let his tunnel expand. That Trickery comes around and forces himself into his awareness. That he actually starts to investigate the existence of Shear. That Vise starts trying to push him to see what he's seen. To accept it.
But to accept it... it means he's no better than the man who chose to protect some criminal guinea pig over the one he claimed to love. Maybe that's part of why he gets lax. Why he starts to let his guard down with regards to his ex. He thinks MAYBE he understands.
He realizes just how fucking wrong he is when he's clinging, desperately, to Shear's unconscious body. Someone he wanted to protect. There is no forgiving Dunstan. The man's madness has only grown.

The Journey
I think as people we get so caught up in the end result, the final outcome; the applause. I can say I'm guilty of falling in love with the actual vision but finding myself overwhelmed decifyering which foot comes first and getting distracted by the squirrel that ran by.
So I stand still. Still with the unwavering vision God Himself gave me. Then I feel a sense of guilt for not pursuing. I feel even more guilty because I feel like I failed at allowing God to trust me simply because I over-think. In addition, I'm frustrated with how long the tunnel is.
"Are we there yet?"- the spirit of impatience. When the road of becoming is rushed, will the vision in it's totality be as sweet? Will I learn anything? Will God entrust me with another? Better yet, will I even make it there?
I recently discovered the true meaning of letting go. Being Spirit Led. I am able to make clearer decisions, actually make meaningful footsteps, trust myself and most importantly, I find Joy in my Journey.
Instead of- Are we there yet?- I ask, "Where are we now, & what does God have for me here?"
Working toward a vision isn't easy work. But it makes it harder when you're functioning from a place of overwhelmingness & impatience. Especially creatively speaking. Lead with Love. Your art will be so much more heartfelt. Your team will benefit from it (because it's far bigger than you).
I'm excited about every learning experience, every engagement, and hurdle. God has you going through each motion intentionally.
I'm grateful for this new found freedom, & I'm even more grateful for this journey.
Thanks for reading! <3

Developments
Painted leaves, using a fine brush and dipping in excess mixed acrylics, then left to dry. I think some of these are particularly beautiful.
One vision - Monet Monet
66 prints using acrylics, then went into the dried prints with watercolour for additional details. The outer, peripheral edges have been deliberately painted with more detail, in comparison with the central squares, which are blurred, to represent central vision loss, with macular degeneration. I was quite pleased with the overall effect of this painting, It is not my usual style of artwork that I would create, however, I felt that because I was working on a continuous site-specific installation, as part of process and production, that i needed to have both continuity and a larger piece, completed.
Blurred lines
This is a 25 square print using acrylics and printing inks, via the medium of gelli plate. They have been printed onto a primed dust sheet. The overall effect was what inspired me to create "One vision - monet monet". I actually prefer this one to the Larger "one vision- Monet Monet", due to the abstract qualities and the dust sheet that it has been painted on.
Below are the images before they went to print on the dust sheet.
Colour me
This is a photoshop of myself, as a small child, set in the dark, with colours talking, representing the colours as almost, child building blocks. I was a quiet child, who apparently was very gifted, with regards being able to play the piano, from the age, that this photo was taken. I often wonder, if this was partly to do with synaesthesia.
Heart to see/heartosee
This was a short video capturing the senses, the overpowering crossover, which at times can be quite daunting. I'm not good with high frequencies, I find certain tones with people's voice really uncomfortable and I struggle to be in their company for too long. I've deliberately kept the video disjointed and abstract, with the image set in a narrow, tunnel like vision, as sometimes it can feel like that.
My blues are not so yellow
Photoshopped image of Jimi Hendrix, using the painted leaves. I chose this image with the leaves, due to the lyrics of the song, "Axis old as love" , which I always related to having synaesthesia.
Anger!
He smiles, towering in shiny metallic purple armour. Queen jealousy, envy waits behind him Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground.
Blue are the life-giving waters, taken for granted, They quietly understand.
Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready, But wonder why the fight is on.
But they're are all bold as love They're all bold as love Yeah, they're all bold as love Just ask the axis
My red is so confident, that he flashes trophies of war And ribbons of euphoria Orange is young and full of daring But very unsteady for the first go around.
My yellow in this case is not so mellow in fact I'm trying to say, It's frightened like me, and all these emotions of mine Keep holding me from giving my life to a rainbow like you,
But I'm a... yeah I'm bold as love, yeah, yeah Well I'm bold, bold as love Hear me talking I'm bold as love, Just ask the axis, he knows everything.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah
Feeling mauve
This was painted using inks on cartridge paper and reminds me of the painting by Victoria Morton, in its expressive and abstract form. There is freedom and the colours bleed into each other creating a juxtaposition between warmth and cold. I wanted to experiment and have more freedom, after painting 66 squares repeatedly, where I did not have the option to have fluid brushstrokes, so this was a welcome and a joy to create.
painting flowers by Janis at visibility Scotland
Watercolours on A3 MDF
Janis is completely blind and I assisted her in guiding her hand to where the board was and asking her what colours she would like on the paintbrush. Janis then painted the flowers, which I think are really beautiful, free and happy.
Painting sky
"Bonnie Ronnie" has complete vision loss in her right eye and has macular degeneration in her left, which will eventually leave her completely blind. Like Janis, I guided Ronnie, by enquiring what colours she would like and mixing them for her, then moving her hand to where the board was. I also showed her techniques of rolling the brush and applying layers. This is really inspiring, as Ronnie was able to paint, prior to losing her sight, so some of this may have been through memory.
This is the sound of lilac, which waill be part of the incorporated sound on the installation, with smell and touch. The sound came about, from my looking at the braille alphabet and trying to pair up the braille letters with Guitar tab. Initially I had thought of using the primary colours, however there were no significant matches. So I chose, lilac, red and blue, which also fit in with many of the crocheted squares that the participants have been making, for touch.
My initial concept and workings
The penfriend allows people to live some semblence of normality within their own home. They can record sounds, such as speaking into the sticker, via the pen and saying "baked beans with the expiry date of food". This then allows the blind or visually impaired, to decipher what is in the can, jar etc.
Images of working at Visibility Scotland, including Queenie, the retired guide dog.

He knew.
Her job never called this late. Even if they did, Dorothea wouldn’t pick up. It was a silent rule they had with each other — work never came home. Reading her expression was never too difficult. He had studied her long enough to understand every lip twitch and eyebrow raise but, for the first time since mastering the art of Dora, he didn’t have an answer. This was new. Not in a good way either. Conrad didn’t have time to dwell on it before a more familiar look appeared. Youthful, vivacious, even loving. His heart skipped a beat, finding peace knowing it wasn’t all bad between them. Why else would she be looking at him like that?
“I’ll follow you anywhere.” The truth. He would follow her over the edge of a cliff, even if she didn’t. A genuine smile appeared, the kind that crinkled the corners of his eyes. It was an impulse to take her heels from her, holding them at his side, as he placed his free hand on the small of her back and they began navigating the energetic streets. Under these same stars, they have walked this path a thousand times before. Just like this, bumping together every few steps, watching her watch strangers and places that pass. Random conversation normally filled the silence — the latest book they were reading or a song they heard on the radio — but there was an evident shift. One that wasn’t necessarily uncomfortable yet far from reassuring.
Several blocks later they stumble upon a quaint shop nestled between a Starbucks and some deli. An ‘open’ sign hung off the red door. Books blocked the window from top to bottom, making it impossible to peek inside. His wife faltered when they approached. Conrad noticed, taking her hand to pull her to a stop, nodding toward the entrance to urge her to go with him. Her curiosity had led them to some of the best adventures of their lives and he wasn’t about to ignore it now. A soft chime greeted them, along with a gentle smile from an elderly man behind the counter. The smell of old pages and chocolate filled the air, somehow finding the perfect balance of musky and sweet. The teacher had a bad habit of borrowing from his school’s library and never stepping foot in a place like this. This was heaven.
Getting lost in the aisles amongst all the clutter and knowledge was easy, for the both of them. “Oh, man!” History was Conrad’s passion but finding a second edition Charles Dickens sparked a childish joy. “Look at that, Dora. Can’t find this at Barnes and Noble.” His fingers brushed the spine of the book, tracing the engraved words gently. Sometimes he regretted living with tunnel vision. It stopped them from finding New York’s diamonds years ago.
As Dora went ahead, Conrad lingered. Admiring the way her dress swayed and curls bounced. An ethereal sight, floating away on a cloud. It was his favorite way to describe it. He twirled his ring around his finger, keeping a distance between them, waiting for something to happen.
“I would not wish any companion in the world but you.” Written by Shakespeare. From the play they read in English class the year they met. His excuse to get to know her, stuttering through the words like he couldn’t possibly comprehend them to get the cute, smart girl to rescue him. She called his bluff the second day. She kept meeting up with him. “From my wedding vows.” The real reason he remembered them by heart. The final sentence to sum up his love, the best any hopeless romantic nineteen year old could do. Something about the way she glanced back at him, or maybe it was the cozy atmosphere, brought them to the front of his mind. “I’m glad I have you, Dora.”

Unit 04: Nature Interpretation through Art and Planning for “All” Scenarios
I believe that you do not need specific qualifications or education to appreciate and interpret nature through art. All of us can look at the same piece of art and we would all interpret it differently. That is a result of the subjective aspect to art that is influenced by emotions, personal experiences and feelings. There are different ways that individuals interpret nature through art. In last week’s content we discussed barriers that individuals face when interacting with nature (Beck et al., 2018b). These individuals have to interact with nature and art in a different way than I would (Beck et al., 2018b). I can conclude that there is no right or wrong way to interpret nature through art. Therefore, when asked, “Who are you to interpret nature through art?” my answer reflects my personal experiences, barriers, and feelings. I am a bi-racial women with a university education that enjoys travelling. I am also a daughter, older sister, and friend. As a result of this I enjoy interpreting nature through art with my family and friends. Additionally, I experience little to no barriers when interpreting art. I do not need to be an art critic that studies and analyzes art to understand it.
The textbook mentioned that we interpret nature intellectually and emotionally (Beck et al., 2018a). This point really resonated with me. Have you ever taken a scenic photograph of your favourite place to be and felt emotional about it? I would spend the last two weeks of summer vacation at my cottage in Muskoka. I remember always feeling really emotional about leaving even as I continued to get older it was still difficult. Before my family and I would pile into the car to drive back to the city I would take one last photograph. I would walk to the end of the dock and try to get the perfect picture of the lake. This was my way of capturing and interpreting the gift of beauty. This place represented family, joy, and love which represents the gift of beauty. After watching Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi ted talk (Csikszentmihalyi, n.d.) I realized I enter a state of ‘flow’ when photographing places that I have an emotional connection with. I become tunnel visioned and supress the outside world to appreciate the view in front of me. I believe enter this state of flow (Csikszentmihalyi, n.d.) help me interpret ‘the gift of beauty’. By becoming immersed in what I am seeing allows me to fully appreciate what is Infront of me and block out the background noise.
This week’s blog prompt really opened my eyes to my abilities to interpret art and the ‘gift of beauty’. I learned that we all are a little creative in our own way.
I really look forward to reading your blog posts and discussing this further.
Thank you,
Makayla
